Description
The Active Directory Replication Troubleshooting guide is the reference documentation that I wrote for myself after hours of frustration in combing through Microsoft’s official documentation. When an Active Directory cluster works, it’s beautiful. If one of the domain controllers drops out, it can be very difficult to diagnose the problem and get it working again. You have to use a lot of different tools, since there isn’t a single tool that shows you every aspect of replication status. Likewise, there isn’t a single source of truth on the subject in any of Microsoft’s documentation. Even if you have resolved DFS issues in the past, I’ll bet you don’t remember all the steps; I know I didn’t! This guide covers:
- Installing and using DFS snap-in for Server Manager
- Traditional command-line tools such as dcdiag.exe
- Important events in Event Viewer
